School Project Bioethics

The DRZE compiled information and teaching material for a school project on bioethics. The material deals with the problems of predictive genetic testing using the example of the hereditary condition of Huntington's Disease (HD), which is also known as St Vitus's Dance.
The material is intended for teachers and students in German lower secondary schools (grades 7-10). Its purpose is to enable students who do not continue their education beyond lower secondary schools (i.e. the majority of the population) to develop a basic understanding and awareness of the issue.
The material was prepared by a team of university lecturers (scientists and researchers in both ethics and teaching methods, educationalists, students in teacher training) as well as by school teachers and students.
This project was supported as part of the action programme "PUSH - Dialogue Science and Society" funded by the Stifterverband für die Deutsche Wissenschaft (Donors' Association for the Promotion of Sciences and Humanities in Germany).
