DRZE not only provides access to relevant literature via its specialised library and permanent documentation but also evaluates literature and information concerning the current bioethical discussion. In this way DRZE intends to facilitate a qualified formation of opinion and judgement in society, politics, and the media. Furthermore it is aimed at both animating an informed bioethical discussion and increasing the quality and quantity of German contributions to the international discussion.

Considering the different target groups’ requirements various complementary forms of information are edited allowing for an user-oriented approach to the different topics.

  • In focus
At present online-overviews concerning current bioethical debates can be viewed under the rubric in focus. The overviews provide a quick, appropriate access to the essential scientific-medical, legal, and ethical aspects of a certain topic. Required information is presented in short introductory texts, using links to different online resources, as well as to other online information supplied by the DRZE.
  • The expert reports
The expert reports (available in print) are in-depth surveys of central bioethical debates including detailed bibliographical appendages.
  • Dossiers
The dossiers are text compilations concerning current medical and bioethical debates. They are available in print and can be purchased via DRZE for a nominal fee.
  • Conference proceedings
On the initiative of the Federal Ministry for Education and Research DRZE has, since 2002, planned and supervised several conferences. The results are documented in conference proceedings.
  • Brochures
In cooperation with the academy of technology assessment, Baden-Württemberg, the DRZE issued an information brochure dealing with the subject of Klonen, Stand der Forschung, ethische Diskussion, rechtliche Aspekte (German only).
  • School projects
For the project "Bioethics in school" the DRZE compiled information and teaching material for the grades 7–10 in secondary schools.
