Library
The library and documentation centre of the DRZE collects literature in the following main areas: bioethics and medical ethics as well as environmental ethics, animal ethics, research ethics and other fields of applied ethics. Furthermore, the collection contains publications in ethics in general, philosophy, theology, jurisprudence, medicine and life sciences.
The library collection includes monographs, collective works, reference works, journals, newspaper articles, legal documents and grey literature, which is not published commercially (e.g. ethical codes and directives, statements, theses, research reports, surveys, proceedings or parliamentary publications). The holdings are based on the library of the Institute of Science and Ethics (IWE) which was established in 1993 and has been integrated into the DRZE library in 1999. Currently, the collection comprises approx. 11,500 books, 59,000 documents, 108 journal subscriptions and 2,000 journal volumes.
The catalogue of the library and documentation centre provides references to monographs, collective works, legal documents, grey literature, journal articles, newspaper articles and book contributions. It can be accessed through the integrated bibliographic database BELIT.
The library is open to the interested public. The holdings are freely accessible and shelved according to the classification system. The library does not lend books or journals, but there is an adequate number of study tables with WLAN access available. It is possible to make photocopies.
