Practical Relevance of the FAO Treaty

The scope of application of the Treaty is very limited: in accordance with Article 11.2., only those genetic resources listed in Annex I - i.e. 34 food crops (e.g. apple, banana, rice, beans) and 29 forage plants - that are "under the management and control of the Contracting Parties", or that are common property, fall within the regulations of the Treaty.
