Transgene

The ambiguous term “transgene” primarily denotes a gene, which has been transferred from one species to another through a suitable gene construct. Apart from that, plants, animals and microorganisms, whose genetic material incorporate a gene of another species are called “transgenic” (i.e. “transgenic plants”). The term “transgenic” also includes those organisms whose genome has been modified in the early embryonic stages.
