International Convention against Doping in Sport

The "International Convention against Doping in Sport" of the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) is the first anti-doping convention with global reach that is binding under international law. It entered into force on February 1, 2007 and has since been signed by more than 170 states, including the Federal Republic of Germany. The Council of Europe's 1989 Anti-Doping Convention can be regarded as a precursor. UNESCO works closely with the World Anti-Doping Agency (WADA) in the fight against doping. The document therefore contains in its Annex I the WADA Prohibited List. Amendments made by WADA to the List and any accompanying standards are automatically incorporated into the Convention in accordance with Article 34, unless the contracting parties object.
