Legal regulation of medical research involving minors in Germany

Germany does not currently have any comprehensive special statutory regulations governing research on human beings. Special laws are in place, first and foremost, for the clinical testing of pharmaceuticals (Medical Products Act - AMG) and medical devices (Medical Devices Act - MPG). With the Fourth Law on amendments of pharmaceutical and other regulations of December 20, 2016, the Regulation (EU) No. 536/2014 ("on clinical trials on medicinal products for human use and repealing Directive 2001/20/EC"), which was adopted by the European Parliament and the Council of the European Union on April 16, 2014, was transposed into national law. This new EU regulation replaced the previously applicable Directive No. 1901/2006.
