Fields of Application of PGD for Selecting Embryos with Certain Characteristics
A study on genetic testing of embryos in the U.S. has illustrated that couples have used PGD to select an embryo showing signs of a certain disease or disability, e.g. deafness. Couples who used PGD for these reasons argued that the selected child, without this characteristic of cultural relevance, could not become a full member of the community in which the parents lived.
