Life-sustaining measures
Life-sustaining measures are medical procedures or treatment methods, that prolong the life of a seriously ill person, that however cannot cure the illness. Life-sustaining measures primarily include artificial nutrition, artificial respiration, the use of cardiovascular stimulant medication, the treatment of additional illnesses, but also cardiopulmonary resuscitation, chemotherapy, dialysis, and surgical procedures aimed at prolonging the life of the ill person.
